EDCs

If you’re in the hormone space, it’s difficult not to come across endocrine disruptors (EDCs). These pesky EDCs interfere with the endocrine system, leading our hormones into havoc.

So naturally, I have been doing some research to see whether the skincare, hair and perfume products I use contain any of these so I can swap them out for something more natural and kind to my hormones. If you’re interested in doing the same thing, or just here for the read- welcome!

A quick side note: if you’re thinking to yourself “hang on what’s this endocrine system you’re referring to” I’m glad you asked. The endocrine system is a network of endocrine glands distributed throughout the body that produces hormones. Hormones are the little messengers that speak to our cells and important for processes such as growth, reproduction, aside many MANY more.

Now jumping back to the chemicals that act as endocrine disruptors i.e. mimic and can alter the natural production of our hormones.

We should look out for:

  • Atrazine

  • Bisphenol A (BPA)

  • Dioxins

  • Perchlorate

  • Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)

  • Phthalates

  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PDBE)

  • Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)

  • Triclosan
